General concepts to check
- Required temperature range and whether refrigeration is specified.
- Protection from freezing, excessive heat or direct sunlight.
- Whether the product must remain in its original packaging.
- The permitted time after preparation or first puncture.
- Signs of damage, particles, discolouration or compromised packaging.
Temperature while travelling
A powered medical cooler or insulated travel case may help with products that require temperature control, but the device should be appropriate for the stated range and ideally monitored with a reliable thermometer.
Sharps disposal
Used needles and syringes should go directly into an approved sharps container. Local disposal arrangements vary, so check guidance from your council, pharmacy or healthcare service.
